Would I be able to use either NiCd or NiMH rechargeable batteries in a Canon Powershot E530 camera?

i believe it’s A530.
The answer is yes, and you should.
NiMH is the preferred battery unless you don’t care about the money and want to feed it lithium batteries.
Alcalines don’t work too well on digital cameras that use a lot of juice when charging the flash etc.
a good source of batteries is thomasdistributing.com
i love their small maha charger.

Most practical, useful, and essential accessory for a DSLR camera besides an external flash?

I’ve been allowed to get just one accessory for my Canon EOS 20D camera.

I’ve been thinking about a wide-angle lens, or maybe an extension cord for my external flash, or maybe a set of reflectors, or a set of filters.

Please tell me what you think is the most useful one. My aim is to take amazing photos, and that’s it, and I don’t know which one accessory can help me most.

Thanks!

What kind of pictures you want to take actually will dictate this to you. The one thing that I think is an imperative is a polarizing filter. (has to be circular not linear on dslr to work correctly.) If you do not have one that is the one thing I would add.
This one filter alone is worth far more than a whole set of filters in my book.

A wide angle lens is nice, and sometimes is combined with a macro lens which if you plan on taking pictures of tiny things like insects would be beneficial.

A tripod or mono pod is another essential to consider.

Which Canon DSLR lenses would work with my EOS300 (film) camera?

Can I buy any of the Canon/Canon compatible lenses available for either/both Full Frame as well as the CMOS Canon DSLR and use it on my Canon EOS300 Film Camera?

Alternatively can I buy the Rebel Xsi DSLR and use my old Canon (film SLR) lenses on it?

On your film camera you can use all EF lenses. You can not use any of the EFs lenses. The EFs lenses are designed for cameras with APS-C sized cameras like your Rebel XSi. The 18-55mm kit lens for your XSi will not work on your film camera.

All of the EF lenses will work on either camera. Your field of view will be different though. The XSi due to its smaller sensor will give you more reach on the telephoto end. For example a 100mm lens will perform on your XSi as a 160mm lens would on your film camera. You will lose out on the wide angle end though. This is why the kit lens for the XSi is an 18-55mm lens instead of the 28-80mm lens that was the kit lens with film cameras.

For third party lenses look for lenses that do not say digital only or anything similar.

What do you think of the Canon EOS 1000D DSLR camera?

I’m thinking about buying this camera. I’ve read favourable reviews, handled it in store and liked it and the price is good. What do you think?

From what the two above me wrote they’ve just been reading about the 1000D where as I actually own one. I highly recommend this camera. Nikon owners like their Nikons, I happen to be a Canon guy and enjoy my 1000D.

With any SLR it’s important to outfit it with the right lens(s). Optics, optics, optics are very important to any camera’s performance. I’ve found that my Canon 28-200 does a superb job of giving me very sharp, quick focus, like this. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jimsphotostuff/4615829643/sizes/l/
Look closely at his eyes, you’ll see what I mean by sharp.

Any way, Canon, Nikon it’s what you really prefer that matters. Me it’s Canon.

What is the difference between these Canon PowerShot digital cameras?

I want a new digital camera, and Canon PowerShot was recommended to me. It’s for casual, vacation picture use.

What’s the difference between the Canon PowerShot SD1200-IS and the Canon PowerShot A1100-IS. The latter is cheaper, but will it be lower quality?

Canon PowerShot A1100is does not come with low quality. The difference is A1100 use AA batteries make it bulky
