These answers are just ridiculous, then again.. So is this question.

BOTH the 450D and the D80 have expensive lenses and cheap lenses and expensive flashes and (can you guess?.. That’s right!) cheap flashes.

Why, after buying a DSLR you should then buy cheap accessories for it is beyond me. The camera body itself is not important, ALL the camera bodies available today will produce incredible pictures and it is the accessories that matter. You can not just buy cheap lenses and crappy third party knock off accessories after shelling out for a body, the lenses are the most important part of the camera and you can expect to pay many times what you paid for the body.

If you can not understand this simple concept then you are far better off not buying a DSLR and buying a £100 P&S instead.

Additional: I guess I did put it a little harshly, but questions such as this simply require a little common sense. It surprises me how many people just decide to buy a DSLR without understanding just what is required afterwards (learning curve, accessories) and it is often the reason why they end up gathering dust on a shelf or on eBay soon after. Oh well each to their own I suppose! )

I have had my Canon Rebel XT since December. I have shot with all of the different settings in many different environments but still have no clue what I am doing! I even talked to a local photographer for help but he confused me even more. I have a 18 to 55 mm and 75-300 lens. No matter what setting it is on my photos taken outside are shadowed and never end up looking the way that they are supposed to look. I have read the manuals over and over again, looked up advice on various websites, etc. I have to wonder if a filter of some sort would help with my outside photos to look more clear and crisp. If not then what? I would really appreciate any and all help that you could give me about the camera, either lens, accessories, etc. Do I have to use Canon products? Which lens sizes are the best and why? I am unfortunately on a tight budget so really expensive items aren’t an option as of now. Even so, I would love to hear what would help so that maybe I could save for it! Thank you so much!!! I really, really appreciate it!

Taking photography classes would be the best way to learn to use your camera. If that isn’t possible you’ll have to rely on reading.

Right now, IMO, you have all the equipment you need. Don’t worry about adding anything until you fully understand the camera and lenses you have. The only thing you might consider buying is a Haze/UV filter for both lenses and a good quality lens cleaning cloth.

I’ve been allowed to get just one accessory for my Canon EOS 20D camera.

I’ve been thinking about a wide-angle lens, or maybe an extension cord for my external flash, or maybe a set of reflectors, or a set of filters.

Please tell me what you think is the most useful one. My aim is to take amazing photos, and that’s it, and I don’t know which one accessory can help me most.

What kind of pictures you want to take actually will dictate this to you. The one thing that I think is an imperative is a polarizing filter. (has to be circular not linear on dslr to work correctly.) If you do not have one that is the one thing I would add.
This one filter alone is worth far more than a whole set of filters in my book.

A wide angle lens is nice, and sometimes is combined with a macro lens which if you plan on taking pictures of tiny things like insects would be beneficial.

See if you can find an add-on wide angle lens .. if you can’t, get him a couple of 2GB SD memory cards, about $24 each on sale.

This short film, FEBRUARY, was shot on a pre-production unit of the new Canon EOS 550D / Rebel T2i. This is UNGRADED footage straight off the camera (converted to ProRes LT first for easy editing). I used a “flattened” picture style as outlined by Stu Maschwitz on his blog: http://prolost.com/blog/2009/8/3/flatten-your-5d.html

Shot in 1080p with 25fps, except for the slow-motion, which was shot in 720p with 60fps and later reconformed to 25fps.

I updated the blog with a rolling shutter test and a short raw footage clip (straight off the camera) for download.
