Hi,
I have just purchased an IXUS 970 IS and would like to buy some replacement batteries for it. The canon ones are Around £30 and was looking into cheaper alternatives. I know that for certain appliances using an "unofficial" power source can damage it (PSPs for example). PLease could someone advise me of this, and if possible, recommend any cheap alternative with good battery life for this camera?
Many thanks,
Sam
I wouldn’t risk buying a non genuine Canon battery. Honestly, you don’t really need more batteries…maybe just an extra one if you’re doing lots of heavy camera use…but not more than that.
The Ixus 970 IS (SD890 IS) has an excellent battery life for an ultra compact Ixus camera (up to 320 shots per full charge), so I don’t see why you would really need an extra one at this stage.
These types of batteries (Lithium) can be charged at any time, so if you give it a top up charge before you need the camera, you probably won’t have a problem with the battery draining on you.

The day Canon make batteries is the day I buy a Canon battery. They just buy them in and re-label them (as do all camera manufacturers), just be sure you get the same spec battery and there are forgeries out there so use a reputable supplier.

try thomas-distributing.com and see if they make them for your canon
I have 7 batteries, 5 of which are CTA and no problems
